Nir Menachemi earned his B.S. in biological anthropology and his M.P.H. in health policy and management from the State University of New York at Albany in 1997 and 1999, respectively. Upon completion, he continued his education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he earned his Ph.D. in health services administration in 2002. He joined the Indiana University (IU) faculty in Indianapolis in 2015 as a professor at the Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health. Since he has held numerous appointments and titles at the university, including serving as a professor and department chair in the Department of Health Policy and Management. In 2019, he was awarded the additional, honorary title of Richard M. Fairbanks Chair of Community. Prior to joining the IU faculty, Menachemi served as a Lister Hill Health Policy Fellow at the Center of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He also formerly held teaching positions at Florida State University and the University of Alabama. Menachemi’s research examines how organizational strategies impact critical performance measures, including quality outcomes and financial performance. His research work has been funded by premier organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and several other private foundations and corporations. Throughout his robust career, Menachemi has been recognized with an array of honors and awards. In 2021, he was the recipient of the AcademyHealth HSR Impact Award, an honor that recognizes research that has a significant impact on health and health care by influencing policy. He was recognized by Poets and Quants as a favorite professor of the executive MBA class of 2020.
