Professor Sargeant joined the public affairs faculty at SPEA IUPUI in the fall of 2006. He is the Robert F. Hartsook Professor of Fundraising at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. A native of Great Britain, Sargeant is a leading international expert in fundraising research, with expertise in donor loyalty and retention and the application of marketing principles to fundraising.
Professor Sargeant received his Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Exeter, England. Among his professional affiliations is Managing Editor of the International Journal of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Marketing and serving on the editorial boards of the Journal of Nonprofit and Public Sector Marketing, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, and the International Journal of Advertising. His major fields of expertise are in nonprofit marketing - including the arts, education, health care and philanthropy.
