Fabio Guillermo Rojas
Virginia Roberts Professor - 2020
Fabio Guillermo Rojas earned his B.A. in mathematics from the University of California Berkeley in 1993. Upon graduation, he continued his education at the University of Chicago where he earned his M.A. and Ph.D., both in sociology, in 1999 and 2003, respectively. He joined the Indiana University (IU) faculty in 2003 as an assistant professor of sociology and was promoted to associate professor in 2010 and full professor in 2016. He served as the director of undergraduate studies in the Department of Sociology from 2010 to 2013. Rojas earned the additional, honorary title of Virginia L. Roberts Professor of Sociology in 2020.
At IU, Rojas teaches courses on an array of topics related to sociology, including social theory, social organization, introduction to sociology, digital sociology, social movement theory, social network analysis, and qualitative research methods. In addition to his faculty position at IU, Rojas also serves at the co-editor of Contexts: Sociology for the Public, the official magazine of the American Sociological Association. He also served as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholar in Health Policy Research at the University of Michigan from 2008 to 2010.
Throughout his career, Rojas has received grant funding from several notable organizations, including the Institute for Humane Studies and the Racial Justice Research Fund. Rojas was also selected as a senior fellow by the Institute for Humane Studies for the Study of Liberalism and a Free Society. Rojas’s writings have appeared in The Washington Post, USA Today, The Hill, and other popular outlets.
