Professor Ng received his B.S., summa cum laude, from Saint Joseph's College in 1968, and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1973. After completing his postdoctoral studies at the University of Toronto, he joined the Department of Mathematical Sciences at IUPUI in 1975 and served as chair of the department from 1986 to 1997. He became a member of the Founding Faculty of University College at IUPUI in 1997, and was appointed M. L. Bittinger Chair Professor in 2004 and Emeritus status in 2011.

Professor Ng's research interests have focused primarily on linear and nonlinear hydrodynamic stability, asymptotic theory for higher-order turning-point problems, singular perturbation techniques and their applications to fluid dynamics, and scientific computing.

A listing of Professor Ng's numerous professional service appointments include: Program Director for Applied Mathematics, National Science Foundation, Washington, DC, 1988-89; Vice President for Programs, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), 1992-97; Chair, SIAM Forum on Industrial and Applied Mathematics, 1992-1993; Member, Advisory Panel for the AMS - IMS - SIAM Joint Summer Research Conferences, 2001-2005.

As Co-Director of the IU/NSF Mathematics Across the Curriculum Project beginning in 1996, Prof. Ng had been actively engaged in undergraduate mathematics curriculum reform. Professor Ng was also active in IU faculty governance. He was elected Vice President, IUPUI Faculty Council, 2002-04. He also served as President, IUPUI Faculty Council, and Co-Secretary, Indiana University Faculty Council, 2004-06.

Professor Ng currently serves as Clinical Professor, IUPUI School of Science, Department of Mathematics.
